Sunscreens: Chemical vs Physical…. what is best for you?
Sunscreen has become an indispensable part of our daily skincare routine, and within the realm of sun protection, chemical sunscreens have been making waves. While physical sunscreens, with ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, have long been popular, chemical sunscreens offer a different approach to safeguarding your skin from the sun's harmful rays.
Chemical sunscreens, also known as organic or synthetic sunscreens, contain active ingredients that absorb and transform mostly UVB radiation into heat, preventing it from penetrating the skin. These sunscreens are formulated with a variety of chemicals, such as avobenzone, octocrylene, and octinoxate, each contributing to their unique protective properties. There is minimal protection against UVA rays.
For many in the industry the jury is still out regarding longterm effects of chemical sunscreens. Oncology Training International, which I teach for and represent; strongly urges clients to a physical sunscreen.
Physical Sunscreen is applied to the outer most layer of the skin bouncing the UVA and UVB rays off the skin that cause the aging and burning damage to the skin.
